Bought some Blackhorn 209
Bought some Blackhorn 209
at sportsman's warehouse today in Ogdon for $ 29.95 for a 10 oz tub ( ouch ) .
I will try get out next week and give it a try .
I have read a lot of reports about it from a modern in -line muzzleloader forum and almost all the reports have been very positive. I understand it smokes way less , velocities are higher , no crud ring . I will try smaller loads than i use with pyrodex and see if I get good results and can save a little $$$$ in the process. I hope that i can get a accurate load with around 75-90 grains with a 300 grain XTP mag .

Looking forward to hearing your report!
It ain't the size of the gun but the placement of the bullet.
Re: Bought some Blackhorn 209
I bought some yesterday at Sportsman Warehouse and should be able to test it in the next couple of weeks.

UB,
I have some TC 250 superglide shock waves and Barnes 250 tipped MZ's I am going to try with it. I am shooting a Omega 50 cal. Kansas is allowing scopes now for MZ's but I have not put one on mine yet. I am going to test evrything at 50 yards for now. If this first batch goes good I will break out the chrony and put a scope on it to see what I can get out of it.

I have a T.C Omega and i just bought a S.S. Encore last fall . Luckily i have a friend who is a gunsmith and can also buy guns . I got the Encore at his cost. I will be using a 1x scope on mine , thats all we can use here .
I see that they recommend regular 209 primers , not Muzzleloader primers like Kleanbore or 777 .
So I just bought some Winchester 209 primers today to use .

Re: Bought some Blackhorn 209
I grabed one of the booklets they had at the warehouse. It compares some of the leading powders but not all of them. and it has dots on what dose what, and what dosent.
but its sounds like it runs hott?
plus you cant go over 120 gr or over a 300 gr bullet and you can only use stright 209s (no!) #11 caps/muzzle 209s
cant wait to see what happens on your tests .

One shot is all I Got.
Better make it count, or reload fast.
