50 Alaskan
I shot the coolest gun while I was up in Idaho fishing. It belongs to a friend of mine. The rifle is a TC encore lower with a custom barrell chambered in 50 alaskan with a twist designed to shoot 50 BMG bullets up to 750 grns. On the front of the barrel sits a legal-by-permit silencer made by an outfit in Montana. The load shoots a 680grn bullet 1200fps with a puny load of 33 grns of RL7! This thing sounds about like a paintball gun and is extremely accurate. I shot it out to 600yds and was amazed at how flat it shot despite the slow muzzle velocity. I guess that's what a nearly .900 BC will do for you. I shot the rifle several times with no ear plugs and was no worse for the wear. This is amazing to me, a rifle capable of 600yd shots that is quieter than your pellet rifle. My friend said that it takes about 6 months to get all the permits for the silencer. I don't think its legal to hunt with, but what an ear-saver. Don't tell Mrs. Shooter, I might have to have one! Below is one of the Alaskan rounds next to a .308win-----shooter

The case is much smaller than the 50 BMG, but the projectiles are the same. This cartridge produces about one third of the muzzle velocity of the BMG, but then again, you could shoot it inside if you had anything that could stop it.-----shooter

With the heavy silencer can it kicks about like a 30-30, not too bad for what you get.---shooter

What gun do you shoot it out of? How much did that cost....that would drop a muley from a 800 yards no sweat!!!

It was built on a TC encore rifle and I think that 800yds would be pushing it a little. Six was pretty easy, but when you only start out at 1200fps, things slow down eventually. What was amazing about this rifle was taking in all of the things you usually miss in the ear protection/muzzle blast, like what a bullet really sounds like when it slams into stuff. I loved it and yes, I do want to shoot a coyote with it. I wonder if I can borrow it legally with the silencer? Hmmmm.------shooter
